George W. Bowdridge, Jr. passed away on December 9, 2001 after a brief but courageous bout with cancer. He was 53 years old. George was born on May 27, 1948 and was a lifelong resident of Malden, MA.

In his youth, he was active with the Boy Scouts of America in Malden and with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. After graduating from Malden High School and Northern Essex Agricultural School, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served in Vietnam.  He received the Vietnam Service Medal, the First coast Guard Good service Medal and the National Defense Medal.  He later served with the Coast Guard Reserve.

When George was discharged from the Coast Guard, he continued his education and received his associate’s degree at Fisher College. Without stopping, he continued his studies in Salem state and Northeastern University.

George was an active member of First Baptist Church of Malden, MA. for 32 years serving on numerous Boards and Committees and teaching Sunday School.  He also served as the former chaplain of the Boston Regional Hospital in Stoneham and was on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity North Shore. George was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge #201 in Everett and the Demolay in Malden, MA. George loved to visit lighthouses and was even assigned to the Chatham Lighthouse when he was with the Coast Guard.

George received his certification as an EMT and was the Supervisor of the Chair Cars for Cataldo Ambulance Service in Melrose. Five years before his death, George worked as the Activities Director of the Davenport Memorial Home in Malden.

George is preceded in death by his father, George W. Bowdridge, Sr. and Brother-in-law, Calvin G. Taylor. He is survived by his wife Susan J. Bowdridge, mother, Esther F. Lennick, daughter, Kimberly J. (John McHale, husband); Sons Todd M. and Josh w.; grandchildren, Amber J. and Sean M.; sister, Lorraine Vasquez; sister-in-law, Anita Taylor; cousin, Hilton Bowdridge; and many nieces and nephews.
